For avid treasure hunters and lovers of all things old and unique, we know that what’s old is new again. That maxim seems to be truer than ever these days. More and more people — and young people especially — are choosing to embrace the old as beloved treasures. This delightful trend seems to be at least part of the explanation for the dramatic increase in popularity that flea markets and antique shops have experienced in recent years.

Antiques Extravaganza

Adamstown, Pennsylvania

2020 Dates: April 22-26, June 24-28, September 23-27

As the self-proclaimed “Antiques Capital, USA,” Adamstown, Pennsylvania is essentially an entire town of antique shops and markets. Three times each year (usually April, June, and September), Adamstown opens its doors to visitors for its annual Antique Extravaganza. During this popular event, thousands come from all over the country to shop seven miles of vendor booths, outdoor markets, and specialty antique shops.

Bellmore Flea Market

Bellmore, New York

2020 Dates: Sundays, April through November, depending on weather

The Bellmore Flea Market is unique amongst fleas. While most markets require vendors to book in advance, therefore drawing the pros, the Bellmore allows anyone with items to sell to do so (as long as they get there early enough!). Thanks to this uncommon rule, the Bellmore Flea Market is completely different from weekend to weekend. The market is held in Bellmore on Sundays.

Brimfield Antique Show and Flea Market

Brimfield, Massachusetts

2020 Dates: May 12-17, July 14-19, September 8-13

The Brimfield Antique Show and Flea Market is perhaps the most famous flea market in the country. Held three times each year (and always occurring from Tuesday thru Sunday), Brimfield is, well, filled to the brim with 5,000+ vendors selling vintage ware, rare antiques, furniture, artwork, and just about anything else you might think of.

Brooklyn Flea

Brooklyn, New York

2020 Dates: Saturdays and Sundays, year round

Oh, the Brooklyn Flea is so much more than a typical flea market! Established in 2008, the Brooklyn Flea takes place on weekends year round — at Fort Greene on Saturdays (April thru October), as part of the DUMBO market on Sundays (April thru October), and at Skylight One Hanson on both weekend days from November through March. The popular market is a great place to find your latest treasure. It’s also a budding foodie scene and a popular hangout amongst young Brooklynites.

Chelsea Flea Market

New York City, New York

2020 Dates: Saturdays and Sundays, year round

The Chelsea Flea Market has been taking place every Saturday and Sunday since 1976. As part of the Annex Markets, the Chelsea Flea Market attracts about 100 vendors each weekend, and is an especially great resource for antiques, mid-century and Art Deco items, clothing, collectibles, jewelry, and more. Admission into the indoor flea market is $1.

College Mart Flea Market

Jewett City, Connecticut 

2020 Dates: Sundays, year round 

Known also as the Jewett City Flea Market, the College Mart Flea Market is one of the largest in Connecticut. Treasures from over 150 dealers can be found indoors and out, over two floors, and on some 900 tables. Products to be found range from the everyday (clothing, food, cosmetics) to the rare. 

Columbus Farmers Market

Columbus, New Jersey

2020 Dates: Year Round

Columbus Farmers Market is the oldest and largest flea market in the Delaware Valley. Boasting 65 different indoor shops and a large outdoor market, the Columbus Farmers Market is an excellent place to find fresh produce, Amish goods, flowers, and of course, lots of antiques and vintage items.

Country Living Fair

Rhinebeck, New York

Country Living magazine has long been a favorite source for all things antiques and homemaking, so it only makes sense that its annual Country Living Fair makes our list of the country’s must-shop flea markets. Held in Rhinebeck, New York in early summer, this one-of-a-kind flea market features a full schedule of seminars and demonstrations, lots of great food, and of course, tons of shopping opportunities.

Dixon’s Furniture Auction

Crumpton, Maryland

2020 Dates: Wednesdays, year round

Whether you’re looking for a $10 necklace or a 19th century case piece valued at upwards of $10,000, chances are you may find it at Dixon’s Furniture Auction. A whopping 25 acres of auction tables make up this market-like event, which is held weekly in Crumpton, Maryland. Just be sure to arrive at the auction hungry, as Amish cooks come out to offer traditional breakfasts, farm-fresh cheeses, and delicious hand-rolled pretzels.

Elephant’s Trunk Flea Market

New Milford, Connecticut

2020 Dates: Sundays, April through mid-December

Milford, Connecticut’s Elephant’s Trunk Flea Market is one of the most successful and beloved markets in the country, and for good reason! Elephant’s Trunk books more than 500 vendors for its seasonal market, each of which is selling their specialty of antiques, vintage, collectibles, and even food. Held outdoors, the Elephant’s Trunk Flea Market is often featured on antiques and flea market-themed television shows on networks like HGTV.

Englishtown Auction

Englishtown, New Jersey

2020 Dates: Saturdays and Sundays, year round

Bigger markets nearby tend to overshadow this one, but there’s no doubt that the Englishtown Auction is one of the best flea markets in the northeastern United States. Since 1929, this must-shop market has drawn vendors and treasure hunters from far and wide. Vendor booths are located both inside and outside, and merchandise is always varied and abundant. The market is best-known for its vintage finds, including clothing, leather ware, records, shoes, etc.

The General Stanton Inn Flea Market

Charlestown, Rhode Island

2020 Dates: Saturdays, Sundays, and Holiday Mondays, last Sunday in April through Columbus Day

The General Stanton Inn Flea Market is held seasonally at the beautiful General Stanton Inn in Charlestown, Rhode Island. Consistent with its historic setting, this must-shop market has been selling a wide variety of antiques and collectibles for more than 50 years now. Georgetown Flea Market

If you’ve read Larry McMurtry’s Cadillac Jack, then you may already be familiar with the Georgetown Flea Market. At least, the novel was based on this legendary flea market that has popped up in the Georgetown neighborhood every Sunday since 1972. Bring your cash between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., then make your way through the more than 50 vendor stalls selling everything from antiques, to heirloom china, to hot dogs.

Golden Nugget Antique Market

Lambertville, New Jersey

This must-shop flea market is held year round on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays in the small town of Lambertville, New Jersey. Prices tend to be a little higher here, but we assure you, the goods are worth it. Just ask the many designers who frequent the market looking for treasures for their high-end clients.

Grafton Flea Market

Grafton, Massachusetts

The Grafton Flea Market has been around since 1970, which makes it one of the oldest markets in Massachusetts. Joppatowne Flea Market

Joppatowne Flea Market is one-half of Joppa Marketplace, a popular market located in Joppa, Maryland. The indoor flea market is open on weekends, and boasts some 200 unique vendor booths. While you’re there, check out the other half of the Joppa Marketplace, an Amish farmers’ market specializing in produce and handmade goods.

Madison-Bouckville Antiques Week

Bouckville, New York

You’ll need patience to take full advantage of all there is to find at the Madison-Bouckville Antiques Week. Held over the course of a three-day weekend (usually in May or June), then again for a full week in August, this massive flea market features upwards of 1,000 vendors. Madison-Bouckville is an excellent place to find things like vintage fabrics, old furniture, antique gardening and farming tools, and early typewriters and record players.

Mower’s Saturday/Sunday Flea Market

Woodstock, New York

2020 Dates: Saturdays and Sundays beginning May 16

A trip to Woodstock for the Mower’s Saturday/Sunday Flea Market may not be as exciting as, say, a 1969 trip to Woodstock may have been. However, we think Mower’s is mighty exciting and a great reason to make the trip to this small New York town. And the crowds seem to agree! Family owned and operated, Mower’s tends to attract the masses. While you’re around, drive up one more block to visit the famous Village Green.

New Hampshire Antiques Show

Manchester, New Hampshire

Those in the market for the really old stuff — and we’re talking Revolutionary War-old — should most certainly make the trip to the New Hampshire Antiques Show in Manchester, New Hampshire. Held over the course of a single weekend in August, this must-shop market is very carefully curated to feature approximately 70 vendors. American antiques are the show’s specialty, and common finds include Chippendale furniture, Windsor chairs, Federal sideboards, and 19th-century glassware, among countless other treasures.

The Providence Flea

Providence, Rhode Island

On Sundays, downtown Providence plays host to The Providence Flea. This must-shop market is a mecca for vintage goods and clothing, collectibles, and locally made artisan arts and crafts. Though The Providence Flea is seasonal, various winter pop-up markets tend to make the schedule. Check the website for further date information.

Renninger’s Antique and Collector’s Extravaganza

Kutztown, Pennsylvania

2020 Dates: January 17-19, February 14-16, third weekend dates TBD.

Three times each year the weekly Renninger’s Antique and Farmer’s Market expands into the Renninger’s Antique and Collector’s Extravaganza. Held in Kutztown, Pennsylvania, this massive must-shop market boasts hundreds of vendors and exhibitors offering exclusive merchandise saved just for this event. Not surprisingly, the Extravaganza draws in the crowds, so treasure hunters are encouraged to start shopping early. Thursday tickets are $10, Friday tickets $6, and Saturday tickets $4.

The Somerville Flea

Somerville, Massachusetts

The Somerville Flea may not be as big as some of the other markets in the region, but it certainly belongs on our list of the must-shop flea markets in the Northeast. Held every Sunday in Davis Square, The Somerville Flea specializes in vintage items and products produced by local artisans. Vintage clothing, shoes, antique furniture, upcycled treasures, handmade gifts, and one-of-a-kind art pieces are some of the flea’s best finds. The market also features live local entertainment, fresh produce vendors, and lots of food.

Spence’s Bazaar

Dover, Delaware

If you find yourself in Delaware, be sure to stop in at Spence’s Bazaar in Dover. For more than 75 years, Spence’s has welcomed vendors and treasure hunters alike to its indoor and outdoor market booths. Lots of great antiques and other merchandise have been discovered here, and fresh product appears regularly. While you’re visiting, be sure to take a good look at Spence’s culinary offerings, which include deli meats, bakery treats, and Amish-made fare.

Stormville Airport Antiques Show & Flea Market

Stormville, New York

Located in the gorgeous Hudson Valley, the Stormville Airport Antique Show & Flea Market has been a favorite of New Yorkers since its founding in 1970. Today, this must-shop market is the largest and most popular in all of the Empire State. It boasts more than 600 vendors selling everything from vintage clothing, to rare antiques, to one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces, and beyond. This one-of-a-kind market boasts 200+ vendors selling antiques, collectibles, clothing, jewelry, and tons more. There is even a playground for kids to enjoy while parents shop. The Willows Flea Market
